Mobile RV service in Tacoma and Pierce County

Tacoma sits at the south end of Puget Sound where I-5, SR-16 and SR-512 meet. RVs here live in driveways in the North End and Lakewood, in storage lots along I-5 in Fife and Puyallup, on acreage out toward Graham and Spanaway, and in RV parks full of military families moving through Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Dealer service bays in the South Sound are often booked out for weeks. We bring the shop to the rig.

Looking for mobile RV repair in Tacoma or mobile RV refrigerator repair? Fridges are one of our most common South Sound calls, along with roof and window leaks from the wet season, generators that won’t run after sitting, and batteries that die in storage. We also do the bigger power work: lithium, solar and Victron systems, plus Starlink, Peplink and weBoost.

United Mobile RV LLC is dealership-trained, 11+ years: a Victron Energy Certified Installer, a weBoost Certified Installer/Reseller, a Dometic Professional and a Peplink Certified Associate.

RV parks and campgrounds near Tacoma

We’re not affiliated with any of these parks. They’re places local RVers stay, and we’ll meet you at your site where the park allows outside technicians:

  • Majestic RV Park: in Puyallup, in the valley just east of Tacoma.
  • Gig Harbor RV Resort: across the Narrows Bridge, with full-hookup 30/50-amp sites.
  • Dash Point State Park: in Federal Way on the Sound; RV sites are tight, roughly 32 feet maximum, so check your length.
  • Seattle/Tacoma KOA: in Kent, a short run up SR-167.
  • Storage lots and driveways: across Pierce County, which is where most local rigs sit between trips.

Many South Sound rigs head to Mount Rainier on SR-7 and SR-410. National park campgrounds there don’t have hookups, so batteries, solar and the generator need to be working before you go.

RV life around Tacoma: rain, moss and military moves

The South Sound’s long wet season, roughly October through May, is what does the most damage. Rigs that sit outside under firs collect needles and moss on the roof, gutters and drip rails overflow, and water finds every tired seam. Inside, closed-up rigs build condensation and mildew, especially behind cabinets and under mattresses.

Winters are usually mild, but a few nights a year drop well below freezing, sometimes for several days in an arctic outbreak. That’s enough to split water lines in a rig that was never winterized because “it doesn’t really freeze here.” Winterizing is cheap insurance.

Batteries take a beating in storage. Lead-acid batteries left on a cheap trickle charger or disconnected for months sulfate and die, and the damp air corrodes terminals. A proper smart charger or a small solar setup with a monitor solves most of it.

JBLM brings constant moving season. A rig that sat during a deployment and now needs to tow a family across the country needs its tires, brakes, breakaway switch, LP system and generator checked before it leaves.

RV repairs we do most around Tacoma

The calls we get most from Tacoma and Pierce County, with a short explanation of each:

  • Refrigerators. Absorption fridges that cool on propane but not electric (or the reverse), fridges that won’t light, cooling-unit failures, and residential fridges that shut off because the inverter or batteries can’t keep up. As a Dometic Professional we work on Dometic units every week, and we troubleshoot Norcold and residential fridges too. If the fridge works on one power source but not the other, that usually narrows it down quickly to a heating element, a board, a fuse or a gas valve. See our Dometic fridge guide and electrical and appliance repair.
  • Water leaks, soft floors and delamination. West of the Cascades, water is the number one enemy of an RV. Failed sealant around roof vents, the AC, clearance lights and window frames lets water into the walls, and by the time you see a stain or a soft spot it has been leaking a while. We trace leaks, reseal, and use thermal imaging and moisture readings to map how far the damage goes. Under the firs in Pierce County, cleaning the roof and checking sealant every fall is the cheapest leak prevention there is. See roof and seals.
  • Generator service and repair. We service and repair Onan, Generac and Kohler RV generators: oil, filters and plugs, plus surging, no-start and shut-down-under-load problems. Gas units that sit for months often surge because old fuel varnishes the carburetor; running the generator under load about once a month helps. South Sound generators often sit all winter, so spring brings a wave of surging and no-start calls. See generator service.
  • 12V and shore power faults. Damp storage also corrodes battery terminals and ground connections, which shows up as flickering lights and slides that move slowly. We trace dead outlets, tripping GFCIs, burnt shore power plugs, converters that stopped charging and parasitic draws that flatten batteries in storage. See RV electrical.
  • Victron, lithium and solar. As a Victron Energy Certified Installer we install and service MultiPlus inverter/chargers, SmartShunt monitors, Cerbo GX and VRM monitoring, DC-DC charging and solar. A small solar panel with a Victron MPPT and SmartShunt keeps a stored rig’s batteries healthy through a gray winter without leaving it plugged in. See Victron systems.
  • LP gas, furnace and water heater. Furnaces that click but won’t light, water heaters that fault out, regulators that freeze up or leak, and LP detectors past their date. We leak-test and pressure-check before we call anything fixed. Furnaces in damp rigs often fail on a corroded igniter or a sail switch packed with dust and lint. See LP gas.
  • Starlink, Peplink and weBoost. Mounting and powering Starlink, Peplink routers that fail over between Starlink and cellular, and weBoost boosters for weak signal. For military families and remote workers on the move, a Peplink router with Starlink and cellular failover keeps you online. See connectivity.

How a mobile visit works

  1. Call, text or book online with the year, make and model, what the rig is doing, and where it’s parked in Tacoma or Pierce County. Photos or a short video help.
  2. We ask a few questions first. Some problems are a setting or a tripped breaker, and we’ll tell you if a remote session can sort it out without a trip.
  3. If we need to come out, we set a day and a time window. Let the park office or storage facility know an outside technician is coming.
  4. On site we test before we replace: meter readings, load tests, and thermal imaging where it helps. You get a plain explanation and a quote before any repair starts.
  5. Most repairs are finished on the same visit. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you what and how long, then come back to finish.

Tacoma RV repair FAQ

Do you repair RV refrigerators on site in Tacoma?

Yes. We troubleshoot absorption fridges on propane and electric, fridges that won’t light, and residential fridges powered by an inverter. Most fridge repairs happen at the rig.

Can you come to JBLM or off-base housing?

Off-base housing, storage lots and RV parks, yes. On-base access depends on base rules, which we don’t control.

Do I really need to winterize in Tacoma?

If the rig won’t be heated, yes. A few hard freezes a winter are enough to split lines. Flat-rate winterization is $175 for a travel trailer and $225 for a fifth wheel or motorhome.

I found a soft spot in the floor. Is it too late?

Not usually. We find the source, map the wet area with moisture readings and thermal imaging, and stop the leak first. Then we talk about whether the damage needs repair now or can be watched.

Can you inspect my rig before a PCS move?

Yes. Tires, brakes, lights, breakaway switch, hitch, LP system, batteries and charging, plus a generator run under load. Trip prep and safety check is a flat rate on our pricing page.
