Payment received
Thanks for booking a remote session or monitoring plan.
Below is what happens next and what to have ready, so we can get straight to work when we connect. On a monitoring plan? There are a couple of extra steps, and we’ll go over them with you.
What happens next
1. We confirm your time
We’ll reach out by text or email to confirm your session time.
2. Set up remote access
Get a laptop on your coach network and online, with remote access set up (steps below).
3. We connect live
We walk the system with you, then send written next steps.
Before your session
Get these ready
Every session
Laptop on the coach network
A laptop connected to your coach’s network (Peplink, GL.iNet, cell modem or whatever you run) AND to the internet. It should be at the coach and powered on for the session.
FOR SETTINGS CHANGES
Chrome Remote Desktop on the laptop
Install Chrome Remote Desktop on that laptop. You share a one-time code, approve it, and can end it anytime. TeamViewer works too.
MANAGED & FLEET PLANS
United Mobile RV Connect
For Windows computers on a Managed or Fleet plan, or when we ask you to use it. We send you a download link made just for your rig. Mac, Android and Raspberry Pi: after testing, ask us.
Before you download: click Start, type Smart App Control, open it, and check what it says. Evaluation or Off is fine. If it’s On, or your laptop is in S mode (Settings, then System, then Activation says “S mode”) or is a work laptop managed by your employer, text us and we’ll use Chrome Remote Desktop instead. Please don’t turn Smart App Control off.
You’ll see two warnings. In Chrome, click Download suspicious file (older Chrome says Keep). When Windows says “Windows protected your PC,” click More info, then Run anyway. If Windows asks for permission, click Yes, then click Install (not Connect). Only do this if the link came from us. If you’re not sure, call or text (616) 606-5277.
If Windows shows no Run anyway button (Smart App Control is on), stop there and text us. We’ll use Chrome Remote Desktop instead.
On your computer, nothing happens until you click Allow, and you can end the session any time. A bar shows while we’re connected, and we never ask for your passwords. For remote-access boxes on Managed and Fleet plans, which can’t show a prompt, we text you before every session and wait for your reply. Text “pause” and we pause our access within 4 hours during the day, or the same evening if you text late. While paused, your computer still asks before anything happens, and a remote-access box can’t be reached at all. Text “resume” to turn access back on. You can remove it anytime (it shows as Mesh Agent in your apps list).
NETWORK ACCESS
Admin access to your network gear
Know the admin login for your router and modem (Peplink, GL.iNet or whatever you run). You log in on your screen and we guide you, or you share a one-time session code. Never send us your passwords. Keep the coach powered on with good cell signal or Wi-Fi available.
ONGOING MONITORING
Ongoing monitoring + equipment photos
We set up a secure always-on link with you on the call, so we can keep an eye on your system. You approve it and can shut it off anytime. Keep photos of model and serial labels on the inverter, charge controller, batteries and router handy.
Before your session
Setup steps
With this set up, we can pull the settings from your Victron control panel (the GX device) and tune your network (Peplink, GL.iNet, modem) with you. We only ever ask for a one-time session code, never your passwords or PINs.
ONE-TIME SESSION
One-time session
Go to remotedesktop.google.com/support, click Generate Code, read us the code, then click Share.
You’ll see our email address. Click Share to start.
BACKUP OPTION
TeamViewer (backup)
Only if Chrome Remote Desktop won’t install. Download TeamViewer QuickSupport (no account needed), read us the ID and one-time password it shows, and close the app whenever you want to end the session.
NETWORK ACCESS
Network gear admin
Make sure you can log in to your router or modem settings page on this laptop (Peplink: usually 192.168.50.1; GL.iNet: usually 192.168.8.1). You log in on your screen and we guide you, or you share a one-time session code. Never send us your passwords.
ONGOING MONITORING
SSH on the Cerbo
Turn on SSH on the Cerbo during the call. You set the root password yourself and never send it to us. See the SSH steps below →
ON THE CALL
Always-on link
Nothing to install. We set it up with you on the call.
Watch, Managed & Fleet
Ongoing monitoring
If you’re on a monitoring plan, or we’ll be keeping an eye on your system after the session, there are a couple of extra steps. We’ll go over them with you.
Victron VRM: invite us to your installation
- Log in to VRM and open your installation.
- Go to Settings, then Users.
- Click Invite user and enter the email address we send you.
- Pick the access level we ask for, then send the invite.
We’ll send the address to invite when we confirm your session.
Deeper access to your Cerbo GX (only if we ask)
We may ask you to turn on SSH on your Cerbo GX or other Venus OS device. That lets us read logs and telemetry and keep an eye on the system. Victron’s steps, in short:
- Set the Access Level to Superuser (Settings → General).
- Set a root password (Settings → General → Set root password).
- Turn on SSH on LAN (Settings → General).
Menus vary a bit between Venus OS versions, so we’ll do this with you on the call. Full steps are in Victron’s guide: Venus OS: Root Access.
About security: We only connect with your OK. You can turn SSH off or change the password anytime. We never share your access.
Peplink and other gear
We’ll walk you through it on the call.
VictronConnect
Install it on your phone and your laptop. We use it to read and adjust your Victron gear over Bluetooth or the network.
