Microwave & Convection Oven Troubleshooting
Built-in RV microwave/convection combos have a few failure patterns that are worth checking before assuming the unit is dead.
Turntable Spins, No Heat
This isolates the fault to the magnetron or high-voltage circuit, not the control board or motor. It’s the most common real failure in RV microwaves and generally isn’t a DIY-safe repair — the high-voltage capacitor holds a dangerous charge even unplugged.
Unit Won’t Power On at All
Check the door switch/interlock first — a misaligned or failed door switch will kill power to the whole unit as a safety measure, and is a far more common culprit than a dead control board. Also confirm the circuit it’s on hasn’t tripped, since built-in units are often on their own dedicated breaker.
Convection Mode Doesn’t Work
If microwave mode works fine but convection (the oven-style heating element and fan) doesn’t, the fault is isolated to that circuit specifically — usually the convection heating element or its relay, not shared components.
