Dump Station Etiquette & How-To
A quick reference for new owners — the order matters more than most people realize.
The Correct Order
1. Connect the sewer hose securely at both ends before opening any valve
2. Dump the black tank first, fully
3. Dump the gray tank second — it rinses solids out of the hose
4. Rinse the hose and tank with a flush wand if the station has one
5. Close both valves before disconnecting

Etiquette That Actually Matters
Don’t leave the area until it’s clean — hose off any spillage before you go. Keep the line moving at busy stations; do prep work (checking valves, positioning) before you pull up to the actual dump pad. Never dump gray water on the ground, even at a remote site — it’s both against most regulations and simply inconsiderate to whoever’s there next.
Gloves Are Not Optional
Disposable gloves for handling the hose and valve handles are cheap and prevent an unpleasant surprise if a fitting leaks. Keep a dedicated pair of gloves, hand sanitizer, and a small trash bag in whatever compartment holds your sewer hose.
