SLIDE-OUT & LEVELING DEEP DIVE
Lippert Schwintek & Power Gear Troubleshooting Guide
Schwintek in-wall slide motor diagnostics and manual override, plus Power Gear hydraulic leveling jack error codes and clearing procedures.
Schwintek In-Wall Slide Motor Diagnostics
TWO MOTORS PER SLIDE, EACH REPORTS FAULTS SEPARATELY
Green LED flash pattern 1 flash = Motor 1 fault, 2 flashes = Motor 2 fault — identifies which motor on a dual-motor slide is throwing the code
Red LED flash count 2 to 9 flashes correspond to the specific error code — consult the Lippert troubleshooting sheet for your controller generation to match the count to a cause
Low voltage at controller Below 11V at the controller is a documented fault trigger — charge the battery fully before assuming a motor or gearbox failure
One motor lagging Dual-motor Schwintek slides can bind or rack if one motor is weaker than the other — uneven motor wear is a common root cause of a slide that won’t seat square
FIELD NOTE
Before condemning a motor, always check battery voltage at the controller first — a huge share of “dead slide motor” calls turn out to be a battery too low to supply the current the motors need under load, not an actual motor failure.
Manual Override Procedure
DO IT WRONG AND YOU CAN DAMAGE THE GEAR RACK
In-wall Schwintek (no crank) Manually operated with a drill fitted to the correct bit size on the exposed motor shaft — confirm bit size and direction against the specific unit’s manual before turning anything
Through-frame slides (hand crank equipped) The crank attaches to the output shaft of the gearbox and operates the screw actuator directly, not the motor itself
Before manual operation Disconnect power to the slide motor circuit first — manually cranking a slide while it’s still powered can strip the gear rack if the motor engages mid-crank
This is one of the few procedures where following the wrong generic YouTube video instead of the specific model’s manual causes real damage — confirm the exact override method for the specific coach before touching it.
Inspecting the hydraulic slide-out pump and wiring harness during a routine chassis check.
Power Gear Hydraulic Leveling Error Codes
MOST ERRORS CLEAR WITH THE RIGHT SEQUENCE, NOT A PART SWAP
“Out of Stroke” You’re trying to extend a jack beyond its mechanical travel limit — not a fault, a limit
Jack-specific error / lost communication Ground Control lost comms with a specific jack mid-auto-level cycle
Clearing procedure Extend all jacks at least 6 inches, then press and hold RETRACT until all jacks fully retract — this clears most jack-communication errors
If that doesn’t clear it Disconnect all connectors and let the system power down completely for about 15 minutes, then reconnect and repeat the extend/retract sequence
Blank display or jacks won’t move Check battery terminal tightness/corrosion, check fuses first, then hydraulic fluid level and check for leaks at the pump
FIELD NOTE
Never leave a rig on hydraulic jacks alone without confirming the manual retract/crank-down procedure first. If the system loses power mid-cycle you need a way to get the coach off the jacks that doesn’t depend on the same electronics that just failed.
OUR TOOL KIT
Slide and leveling gear we use
3-IN-ONE RVcare Slide-Out Silicone Lube — Keeps slide seals and rails from dragging. Dry silicone, so it doesn’t collect grit.
LevelMatePRO wireless leveling system — Shows exactly how many inches to raise each side before you touch the jacks.
Camco interlocking leveling blocks — Spreads the load under jacks and tires on soft ground so pads don’t sink.

Slide or Jacks Stuck Right Now?
A stuck slide or jack is time-sensitive, especially if you need to move the rig. Call first — we can often walk you through the clearing sequence, or get out to you fast if it needs hands-on work.
