Backup Camera & TPMS Install Guide
Backup cameras and tire pressure monitoring systems get bundled into a lot of install jobs because they solve two of the biggest blind spots in RV ownership — literally and figuratively.
Wired vs. wireless backup cameras
Wired systems run a signal cable from the rear camera to the cab monitor — more reliable, no interference issues, but a harder install that usually means running cable the full length of the rig. Wireless systems transmit the video signal, which is faster to install but can suffer dropouts or interference, especially over longer trailer lengths or near other RF sources.
For a fifth-wheel or long trailer that’s towed by different vehicles occasionally, a wireless system that can be moved is often the more practical choice despite the trade-off.

TPMS sensor types and pairing
Cap sensors thread onto the valve stem and are quick to install and swap between tires; internal (banded) sensors mount inside the wheel and are more tamper- and theft-resistant but require dismounting the tire to install. Most systems pair each sensor to a specific tire position in the display, so correct positional pairing during setup matters for accurate alerts.
Once a TPMS is installed, set alert thresholds using your actual load-based pressure from our tire pressure by load chart, not a generic default.

A quality digital tire pressure gauge is worth having even with a TPMS installed — useful for the initial cold-pressure baseline check and as a manual backup if a sensor ever drops out.
